As I mentioned yesterday, we’re in Stellenbosch for a few days so I can attend did:unconf Africa.

I was able to walk from our AirBNB to the conference site; here are a few photos I captured along the way:

A whitewashed Cape Dutch building with ornate curved gables, dark green shutters, and a thatched roof stands on a street corner in Stellenbosch under a blue sky with scattered clouds. Large oak trees line the empty asphalt road, and a dark abstract sculpture sits on a brick plaza in front of the building.

A pale yellow Victorian-style house with an ornate gabled facade, an arched entrance, brown wooden shutters and a domed turret, seen from across an empty street behind a decorative white wrought-iron fence and gate. Mature green trees flank the property under a blue sky scattered with white clouds.

A large white two-storey building labeled “Nerina” with a dark roof and central entrance, set behind a wide grassy lawn dotted with mature trees including a tall conifer, a palm, and a leafless tree, under a bright blue sky with scattered clouds. A couple of birds graze on the grass and a few cars are parked near the building.

Several white water lilies with bright yellow centers bloom among floating green lily pads on the dark surface of a pond, viewed from above.

A large, round green lily pad with a netted pattern of reddish veins floats on a dark pond, its surface dimpled and edges slightly upturned. The still water reflects an overcast cloudy sky, and dark submerged leaves and stems hang into the frame from the top.

This evening we were invited to the Middelvlei Wine Estate for a conference-related dinner.

A historic farmhouse with a red gabled roof and white walls sits among tall eucalyptus and leafy green trees, behind a rustic wooden post-and-wire fence enclosing grassy paddocks. The foreground is a manicured green lawn under a partly cloudy blue sky in late afternoon light.

An old green-painted vintage agricultural machine with cast-iron spoked wheels and a metal chimney sits on a paved brick area, surrounded by lush green trees and flowering shrubs in late afternoon light at a wine estate.

A large mountain partly capped by a dramatic bank of grey cloud rises behind a flat, golden-green farm field at Middelvlei Wine Estate. In the foreground a small stone structure and wire fencing sit amid the grass, with a line of trees, a water tank, and power lines stretching across the middle distance in evening light.
