We are staying this evening in the Boulder Garden Resort, a two-hour drive from Negombo and the fish market.

We’ve had most of the afternoon to relax and explore the unique grounds here which have been carved out of large boulders from the area.

A winding stone staircase climbs between large moss-covered boulders in a lush tropical forest, with bamboo stalks and dense green ferns and foliage surrounding the path at Boulder Garden in Kalawana, Sri Lanka.

How many restaurants are built immediately beneath a massive boulder?

An open-air restaurant set beneath a massive overhanging boulder, with dark-clothed tables set with blue napkins and small candle lamps arranged on a polished grey stone floor. Lush green jungle is visible to the left, candle lamps line the rock wall, stone steps rise on the right, and a shallow reflecting pool sits in the foreground.

A small white architectural model and framed paintings decorate the space, and polished stone surfaces reflect the warm lighting.
