South Carolina Day 1: A Window Seat

21 October 2023 4052 km / 2518 mi (map)

Lisa and I are back for a fall work-cation visiting friends in South Carolina. I scored a window seat and got treated to some wonderful skyscapes on the way today.

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Sea-Tac, Washington
An aerial view above a thick, rolling blanket of clouds at sunrise, with the low sun casting golden light across the cloud tops and lens flare streaking through the frame. On the horizon a snow-capped Mount Rainier rises above the distant ridgeline against a pale blue and orange sky.
above Des Moines, Washington
A view from high above a vast sea of clouds, with the dark silhouettes of mountain peaks and ridges poking through the fog under a pale morning sky streaked with wispy cirrus clouds.
above Covington, Washington
An aerial view from a plane in early morning light, looking down on rugged, dark ridgelines and mountains rising above a thick blanket of low clouds, with distant peaks fading into haze under a soft blue and gold sky.
above Ragnar, Washington
An aerial view from an airplane window over rugged, partly snow-dusted mountain peaks near Snoqualmie Pass, Washington, with early morning sunlight raking across the ridges and hazy blue ranges receding toward a soft, cloud-streaked horizon.

I love the windy paths created by tidal flows where river meets ocean. Seen on approach to Charleston International Airport …

An aerial view over the coastal low country near Johns Island, South Carolina, showing tidal salt marshes laced with winding serpentine creeks, a wide river or waterway with a small boat leaving a wake, patches of dense green forest, and distant developed areas leading toward the ocean horizon under a clear blue sky.

Tomorrow’s weather looks great; looking forward to exploring some new parts of the low country!
