I mentioned yesterday that we arrived late in the evening at an AirBNB site that’s on a farm in rural Victoria. We arrived too late to see much of the farm, so they sent a welcoming committee first thing in the morning. (We made very fast friends, as you can see!)

If you’re ever in rural Victoria east of Melbourne, I highly recommend a stay at The Blue Barn. Here’s a sample of what’s in store for you from our walkabout in the morning:

A wide rural property with a mown grassy field in the foreground, framed by tall silhouetted trees on the left, with a low wooden fence and rolling green farmland beyond. The morning sun glows low on the horizon beneath a heavily clouded grey sky, with power lines and a utility pole crossing the scene.

A view down a grassy hillside over a rural property with several barns and sheds, including dark blue and red farm buildings, set in rolling green countryside with wooded hills under an overcast sky and a glow of light low on the horizon. In the foreground two dogs, a white-and-brown spaniel and a brown dog, play in the paddock beside a wire fence.

Two black-and-white belted cattle graze on a sloping green hillside paddock, with a wide valley of farmland, trees and rolling hills beyond, beneath an overcast sky glowing with golden morning light near the horizon.

Two dark-coloured sheep stand silhouetted on the crest of a grassy hill, looking toward the camera, beneath a cloudy blue-grey sky with a power line stretching across the top of the frame.

Three dark brown sheep with black faces stand close together on a grassy hillside paddock, two of them looking toward the camera. A worn path winds up the slope behind them toward a wire fence and a line of dark green trees along the top of the hill, with a small black-and-white bird visible in the grass to the left.

After leaving the farm, we drove west toward Melbourne.

A rural roadside scene with a low concrete toilet block painted with a faded outback mural; the painted sections are labelled “GENTS” and “LADIES” and depict gum trees, water tanks and buildings. A tall eucalyptus tree, weathered wooden fence with a gate, signs reading “Fuel or shop customers only” and “Public toilets”, and a dirt forecourt sit under a pale cloudy sky.

A weathered metal plaque screwed to a wall of mottled tan and rust-stained tiles, reading “Central Sprinkler Stop-Valve Inside” in dark lettering.

Once in the city, we met some friends of mine, John and Jo, the principals of Sezoo Digital, who I know from my work in digital identity for Content Authenticity.

A narrow pedestrian laneway in central Melbourne lined with cafe tables and chairs, with black-and-white striped umbrellas on the right and a vintage gas-style lamp on the left. People walk and sit at outdoor tables between brick and stone heritage buildings, with a leafy tree and tall modern towers visible further down the lane.

After lunch, it was time to head to the airport for our next adventure: Tasmania! Looking forward to exploring and sharing more tomorrow.
