We started this morning with a visit to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Such adorable creatures!

A grey koala clinging to a tree trunk amid eucalyptus foliage, holding a leaf to its mouth with one paw while its tongue is visible. Dappled sunlight falls across its fluffy fur and the surrounding greenery.

We then took a meandering road trip through the inland hills before arriving at our resort in Noosa Heads.

A grassy slope of dry golden and green grasses leads down toward the calm blue water of Lake Wivenhoe, with a stand of tall eucalyptus trees on the left and low hills in the distance under a clear deep-blue sky with a faint moon visible.

A wide tidal flat at dusk with the sun setting just above a low, silhouetted shoreline of distant hills and trees, casting a band of orange glow that fades into a clear deep-blue sky. Wet sand and shallow channels in the foreground reflect the fading light, with a few tiny distant figures along the water’s edge.

People relax along a grassy foreshore at dusk beside a calm river mouth, with some seated in folding chairs and others gathered at a picnic table beneath the silhouette of a large spreading tree. The sky glows orange and yellow above the horizon as the sun sinks, with a sandy beach and distant figures visible across the water.

Fun fact: I had the chance to shoot this same sunset on my first trip to Australia 29 years ago.

I’m struck by how lucky I was to arrive just as the sun was setting right over the mountain across the way. It being depeer into winter this time, the sun was not as conveniently placed.

Also: After experiencing the depth of Tasmanian winter, it’s really nice to have warm and sunny weather to wrap up our trip.
