A fish market display in Fort Kochi, India, with rows of fresh fish — red snapper, silver fish, and dark striped fish — laid out on burlap on the ground, alongside blue and pink basins of shrimp. Behind them sit colorful plastic bowls of seafood on a tiled counter, an old hanging weighing scale, and an orange crate.

In the evening we were offered a leisurely ride in a long canoe. I wound up being the only one to go, but the views of the quiet lake were lovely.

A man carries stacked chairs along a sandy path between a backwater lagoon and a calm lake at golden hour, with tall coconut palms silhouetted against a bright hazy sky and a traditional carved wooden boat moored at a small jetty.
