We decided to close out our week in Mexico with the Rhythms of the Night show, which a friend back home had recommended to us.

So. Worth. It!

The tour includes an hour-long boat trip across Banderas Bay, conveniently timed for sunset.

A waterway in the Nuevo Vallarta Channel under a clear blue sky, with a rocky, grass-covered point of land lined with palm trees in the late afternoon light. A white multi-story building rises behind the palms on the right, while a wooden dock and small boats sit along the shore at left.
Nuevo Vallarta Channel, Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico
A golden sunset over a calm waterway, with the low sun casting a shimmering reflection across the rippled water. Silhouettes of palm trees, a building, and a small pier line the banks of the channel.
Nuevo Vallarta Channel, Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico
A calm channel of water leading out toward the open sea at dusk, with palm trees and dense vegetation silhouetted on a rocky point at left and more palms on the far shore at right. The hazy sky glows golden-white near the horizon as the sun lowers.
Nuevo Vallarta Channel, Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico
A group of people fish from atop a stone breakwater jetty edged with large boulders, with several figures silhouetted against a hazy sky and distant mountains. Calm sea water laps against the rocks in the foreground at the Nuevo Vallarta Channel.

A coastal skyline of low- and high-rise buildings catching warm late-afternoon light along the shore of Bahía de Banderas, backed by hazy blue mountain ranges under a pale clear sky, viewed across calm dark blue water from a boat.
Bahía de Banderas, south of Nuevo Vallarta, Nayarit, Mexico
The sun sits low over the open ocean at sunset, casting a golden trail across calm rippled water in Bahía de Banderas, with churning white foam and spray from a boat’s wake spreading across the lower left of the frame.
Bahía de Banderas, west of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico
A calm bay at dusk with a glowing orange and yellow band of sky on the horizon fading into blue, partly covered by gray clouds. A forested headland is silhouetted on the left, and a couple of boats are moored in the dark water along the shore.
Bahía de Banderas, west of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico
A tropical beach cove at dusk seen from the water, with warm golden lights glowing among palm trees and thatched-roof palapas along the shore, their reflections shimmering across the dark rippling water. A jungle-covered hillside rises into a deep blue, cloudy twilight sky.

Once on shore, we were treated to a nice dinner with lots of music and other performers …

A towering insect-like puppet with a green segmented body, large eyes, and long antennae stands on a sandy beach at night, lit by candlelight. Behind it are palm tree trunks, a row of upright surfboards, and rows of votive candles, with the dark ocean visible to the left.

… and then a little candle-lit walk through the woods …

A dirt path winds through a dense bamboo grove at night, lit by small string lights woven among the tall green stalks. To the right stands a wrought-iron candelabra holding rows of glowing votive candles in a curved arrangement.

A winding dirt path through dense tropical jungle at night, lined with small lit candles set on wooden log edging and along a rustic timber railing, surrounded by palms and lush green foliage.

A tiered stone altar lit by candles at night, displaying weathered human-like skulls on its ledges and a carved circular stone face at the top, surrounded by dense tropical palm fronds with a flickering torch flame at lower left.

… and the real show began. I’m only including a few highlights here. Imagine Cirque du Soleil, but with live Mexican music and in a fully outdoor theatre. Oh, and fire. Lots of fire!

A stepped pyramid-style stone staircase at night, illuminated with colorful blue and green projected light that mimics water and foliage patterns, set against a backdrop of dense dark jungle with stage lights glowing blue and amber among the trees.

Eventually, it was time to head back for the hour-long crossing back to Nuevo Vallarta.

A nighttime view of a tropical beach cove lit by warm golden lights strung among dense palm trees and thatched-roof structures, with the lights reflecting on the dark rippling water in the foreground. A stone seawall lines the shore on the right, where small waves break over rocks.

But … wait … the show’s not over yet, folks! The crew put on quite an impressive performance air-guitar and drag performance. All in good fun!
