This morning, I returned to the city to start a series of meetings with my team in New York City. I used Amtrak’s Empire Service train — not to be confused with the Empire Builder which serves the Midwest and Pacific Northwest — and was treated to some wonderful morning fog and sunrise photos of the Hudson River.

A wide, calm river stretches across the foreground beneath a hazy, pale gray sky, with a dense line of trees along the far bank catching warm golden morning light. Mist softens the far shoreline on the right, and the autumn foliage glows orange and yellow above darker green growth.

A brick lighthouse building and a green navigation marker rise from the misty water of a river at dawn, with a wooded shoreline partly obscured by heavy fog and low cloud filling the pale sky.
Tivoli, New York
A calm bay in early morning light with a wooded shoreline of trees in fall colors — green, gold, and orange — mirrored in the still water, under a hazy sky with low clouds; a faint reflection on a window suggests the shot was taken from indoors.

A tree-lined shoreline in early autumn glows with warm morning light, its green foliage accented by patches of orange and red, reflected in the calm water of a bay beneath a pale blue sky with soft peach-tinted clouds.

A view from water level beneath two parallel steel truss bridges spanning a wide river, their tall concrete piers rising from the water and lit warmly by low morning sun against a clear blue sky, with wooded hills and shoreline buildings in the distance.
Newburgh–Beacon Bridge · Beacon, New York
The ruins of Bannerman Castle on Pollepel Island in the Hudson River, its crumbling brick walls, turret, and overgrown vegetation glowing in warm early-morning light, with calm water in the foreground and wooded hills along the far shore under a pale clear sky.
Bannerman Castle · Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York
A rounded, tree-covered mountain with a prominent bare granite cliff face rising above the far bank of a wide, calm river under a clear pale blue morning sky. Warm early light catches the rock and foliage, with hints of autumn color in the trees along the shoreline.
